    A chance encounter

I live in Fraserburgh, and came to Edinburgh to meet up with family and friends. My friends were supposed to have Pre booked a restaurant, over a couple of beers, it became apparent they hadn’t. I decided to try 5pm.co.uk for suggestions and found Indian Lounge. The welcome we received as was the whole service we received was excellent. There was a good selection of set meals and A La Carte meals, reasonably priced. Despite being advised when we ordered that they were busy and there may be a delay in getting our order, this never transpired. By the time we choose a nice competitively priced had some poppadoms and dips, our starters were with us in no time. Main courses arrived with no delays. Food quality and quantity excellent. We would definitely make a return visit and I have recommended the establishment to other friends and family not in attendance that night.

    Cheated & overcharged for meal

The food was very good and the service during the meal was first class. Big issue though when it came to paying the bill. We were ushered out from the main restaurant to pay & my initial thought was that the bill was too high compared to what we had at £99.60. The owner/waiter was also pressurising me to pay in full in cash. I do not carry much cash as nobody does these days. I paid £40 in cash & the balance by card. It was still boggling me today & I have now checked the menu & prices online & I reckon the bill should have been closer to £75 meaning I have been cheated out of £25 which is not a nice feeling. Unfortunately I do not live in Edinburgh or I would sure be back there today to call them out. Not a pleasant experience at all & totally spoiled what was a nice occasion. Not a good thing for all those visitors & tourists going to Edinburgh.

Family-run Indian in city centre

Indian Lounge is a family-run Punjabi restaurant on Rose Street in Edinburgh city centre. Serving curries to visitors and Edinburgh residents for over thirty years, the 80 seat Indian Lounge is one of the capital’s oldest Indian restaurants.

Authentic dishes from award-winning chef

The award-winning chef at Indian Lounge grinds carefully selected spices to make a wide variety of traditional and innovative Indian dishes. While the menus are rooted in northern Indian, or Punjabi, culinary traditions, the choices reflect all of India’s regional cuisines from southern Indian madras and vindaloo curries to dhansaks from Mumbai.

From northern India, there are lamb, chicken and king prawn tandoori dishes. Many diners opt for the special karahi bhoona dishes which are flamed in cognac. The menu also has a section dedicated to the house specialities like the massalidar gosht – tender, boneless lamb or chicken pieces cooked with lime and pickle to give a distinct taste and aroma. As always in Indian restaurants, there is a great range of appetising vegetarian dishes such as the channa puri – spiced Afghan chick peas in a wafer-thin chapati.
