  Anniversary Dinner

  Lovely meal with food of an excellent quality. We both had the chicken tempura and had the braised beef for main courses. A glass of Pinot grigio was included as part of the £19.95 each person. We were so full up we did not have a dessert. Will certainly go again.

Busy restaurant within golf and spa hotel on Ayrshire coast

A short walk from the popular Gailes beach, The Gailes Hotel is on Marine Drive in between Irvine and Troon. A family-owned, four-star luxury hotel with golf and spa facilities, it has a welcoming bar and restaurant called Zest. Warm walnut and gorgeous soft furnishings create a modern, contemporary look inside the restaurant. When the sun is shining, the comfortable seating of the outside terraces provides an elegant setting for a glass of wine or cold beer. The Gailes Hotel is part of the SimpsInns group.

International menu and local produce

From brunch to lunch, light bites to evening meals, the chefs at Zest Restaurant like to use local produce where possible. The extensive menus zip from traditional Scottish options such as Scotch beef and Arran Ale pie, Cullen skink and haddock ‘n’ chips to chicken tempura, red Thai vegetable curry and sizzling beef fajitas. There is a range of steaks and burgers and a selection of warm salad platters. If you want to graze, there is a menu of small plates and sharing boards at Zest Restaurant.

Irvine transport and attractions

The Gailes Hotel is on Marine Drive by the coast just outside Irvine. The hotel has ample parking. The nearest train station is Irvine. As well as the hotel’s own nine-hole golf course and driving range plus spa/leisure facilities, there are numerous championship golf courses nearby such as Dundonald Links, venue for the Scottish Open.
